Great article! Fun to read. But...Only a few weeks there's no way to really know even just one city.
Mexico is not that safe, especially Mexico city.
It's a fun country, but you need have at least some basic common senses about safety and be alert.

thanks!my statement that "mexico is not that dangerous" is supported by the facts i gathered when i personally traveled there. i was not trying to depict it as the heaven. but as long as the facts stand, my personal perception stands.
and yes, adults should never leave home without common sense, let alone when going to mexico.
but did we also leave home with a warm smile and open arms?
they are the meaning of your travel and the ultimate sources of your safety.

NiceNext time you can try izta, you won't regret it!
Orizaba need technical skills and is pretty hard to get in. Izta is great, I believe it's the best in mexico volcanoes! when you look at the popo from izta, it's just amazing...

i went to Cholula. spent a whole day there...looked everywhere, wasn't able to find a guide for izta...so i asked the guy in hostel "i know there is a climber's hut in the mountain. is it possible to do it myself?"
"though most climbers attempt it with a guild, izta often claims lives. what do you think?"
mission aborted.
after all, alex has some common sense. ^__^

Yes, you are absolutely right. We need be extremely careful when dealing with mountains.especially high altitude (not that high though).
With proper homework, you don't need a guide to climb izta. You are not likely to get lost there. But I think it's better to have a parter anyway...

em... so why?i wrote some articles about travel and sometimes people asked "why do you only talk about the happy stories and not mention the hardship?"
"coz it is not like there are not enough discouraging comments about...lets say, mexico. whats the point of adding more? Especially when they are biased—big-mac-style biased."
the hardest thing about travel is deciding to go.
home depot says "u can do it. we can help".
Not being home-depot strong, alex says "u can do it. i can encourage".
