LONDON, June 8 (Reuters) - Barclays Plc (BARC.L) said on
Monday it was in talks to sell its fund management business BGI,
in a move that would create by far the world's largest asset
manager.
BlackRock is the frontrunner to buy Barclays Global
Investors for about $12 billion, although people familiar with
the matter have said BNY Mellon is also in talks [ID:nL8414031].
A combined BGI and Blackrock would create a business with
about double the assets of the nearest rival, State Street
Global Advisers.
Following is a table of the world's largest asset managers
by assets under management (AUM) at end-March 2009, unless
indicated otherwise.
The figures exclude private banking assets and, where
applicable, are converted into dollars at Monday's exchange
rate.
