Toronto CFA Society Luncheon Seminar: IFRS – What Does It Mean to CFAs?

Overview:
International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is effective in Canada in 2011 with comparatives
required for January 1, 2010. Are you ready? Our panel of experts will discuss:
- What is IFRS? What are the major changes from Canadian GAAP?
- Why is IFRS necessary? Which industries are most affected?
- What are the impacts of the conversion from the perspective of CFAs?
- What are the experiences of other countries that have adopted IFRS?
The objective of this luncheon event is to create awareness, inspire and stimulate critical thinking on
IFRS in this first of a series of IFRS events to come.

Moderator: Ian Rossa O’Reilly, CFA
Managing Director, Institutional Equity Research, CIBC World Markets
Rossa is a managing director at CIBC World Markets with 38 years of experience analyzing publicly traded equities and stock market strategy. He is a past board member and chairman of the CFA Institute. He has also been a member of the CICA’s Accounting Standards Board and is a past president of the Toronto CFA Society.

Panelists:
Paul G. Cherry, FCA, Chair, Accounting Standards Board
As a former Chief Accountant of the OSC, Paul has over 25 years of experience in public accounting and has worked extensively with international companies and international accounting standards. Paul served for seven years as one of Canada’s representatives on the International Accounting Standards Committee and chaired its Standing Interpretations Committee from 1997-2001. Paul was also a former member and chair of the Canadian Emerging Issues Committee. He has been appointed fulltime chair of the Accounting Standards Board since May 2001, and he also chairs the Standards Advisory Council of the International Accounting Standards Board.

Jason Boggs, Partner, Capital Markets Group, PricewaterhouseCoopers
Jason is a partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP’s Canadian Capital Markets Group (CMG), based in Toronto. Jason has over 11 years of experience working with financial institutions, either in IFRS conversions or financial risk management. Jason was in Australia as it moved to IFRS and he helped develop PwC’s IFRS conversion practice. He then returned to the UK with the CMG being a recognized expert in IFRS conversions and assisted financial institutions in Europe with their adoption of IFRS.
