"On Father's Day, she had four procedures, and I just felt so terrible for Tim,” Hutton said. It was heart-wrenching for him.”
That experience gave Hudak a greater appreciation for front-line health workers — and for the publicly-funded system.
Miller got top-notch care and Hudak said without OHIP, his family would “be bankrupt by now.”
"Thank God the system is there," he said. "We had outstanding doctors and nurses who were fantastic with Miller and helped us to understand what was happening with her.
"I want to make sure that if I have the honour of serving as premier, to do better by them. To make sure we give those who are on the front lines and run off their feet the support they deserve," Hudak said.
