Why is Kathleen Wynne punishing skilled tradespeople when there is a shortage of them in Ontario?
The questions seems ridiculous, but the evidence is clear:
One of the most restrictive apprenticeship ratios in Canada is preventing young people from entering the skilled trades;
New taxes and fees from the College of Trades makes it harder for small businesses to succeed in the skilled trades; and
Compulsory certification forces people out of work to go back to school and can bar them from doing a job they've done for decades.
Instead of trying to push people out of the skilled trades, we should be encouraging these good-paying jobs in Ontario.
That is why Tim Hudak will get rid of the College of Trades and open up apprenticeship ratios, creating 200,000 new jobs.
