and then he told them: my wife is a Canadian, and we live in Canada, we have a house in XXX, and my kid goes to Canada school. I work in a Canada company, and here is my Canadian driver license. blab blab blab, Are you not letting me in only because this piece of card is expired?
after all the complaints, those officers began to apologize and asked him to fill out a simple form, and let him enter Canada.
He later tried to fill out the forms to renew the card, and he realized the form was way too complicated and too many fields he did not know how to answer. So he decided, fxxk it, I am not going to renew it.
Because he sees his Germany passport more valuable, he didn't apply Canadian citizenship. Every time he crossed the border, he simply shows the border officer his expired card, and he is asked to fill out a form, spends 20 minutes in the office and explains the story, and he will be allowed to enter. My coworker is happy to do than filling out the renewal form. He says it's a principle thing. He refuses to renew it.
This whole story makes me feel he is right. There is no reason for people like us who lives and works in Canada to renew. The only reason to renew a PR card is because someone applies it but does not live in here. This thing, the government should figure out on their own. For example, when a PR enters Canada, scans the card so it has a record; when he/she leaves, scan the card again, so it knows this person is not living in Canada. Why the heck the government asks us to fill out so many stupid forms if we live and work here and pay all the taxes?
