虚岁是中华民族一种重要的民俗，它是以春节（农历新年）分界点的，而周岁以本人的生日为分界点的。

虚岁换算成周岁：在本人生日到来之前，周岁=虚岁-2；在本人生日到来及以后，周岁=虚岁-1；

周岁换算成虚岁：在本人生日到来之前，虚岁=周岁+2；在本人生日到来及以后，虚岁=周岁+1。

虚岁是中国传统计算年龄的方法。婴儿出生时就记为一岁，以后每过一个春节增加一岁，这样虚岁往往比周岁要大一到两岁，成为虚一岁或虚两岁。

婴儿出生时即记为一岁是因为胎儿在母体内受孕到出生有接近一年的时间。农历年末出生的孩子，如腊月出生，一过春节就记为两岁，因此比周岁要大近两岁。
