Dear. Ms. Okay:
I’m sending you this letter as part of my following actions after my son was injured at the pre-school room in MOOSEHEAD XXX Daycare Center.
On April 30th 200x when my son Littleoil was under the care of Ms. D Ashhill, he was injured with a bleeding nose just before I was going to pickup him. Following meetings with manager of the daycare center Ms. SH didn’t answer all our questions and make us feel comfortable with all our concerns.
Our first concern is, had the incident been handled appropriately and procedures being followed accordingly?
As I have indicated in my previous letter, I was told different stories and kids were stopped from telling me what happened during my stay in the classroom. When I asked for an incident report, I was not able to see it by the end of that day. Instead I was repeatedly told that it won’t be released to me.
With further meeting with Ms. SH, Manager of the Daycare Center on May 4th, we were still not able to obtain a copy of the incident report that had injured our son badly. Nor did I receive any verbal apology from anyone of the daycare center. Instead, we continued to receive more controversial information, including but not limited to the following:
A. Despite that we have been told repeatedly the incident report won’t be copied to the parents, we were able to retrieve it from my son’s inbox 6 days later, Wednesday, May 6. It was printed on the paper that the incident report has to be written within 4 hours after the incident happens. Obviously this procedure was not followed.
B. Ms. SH told us during the meeting that Ms. D Ashhill had to re-write the report after our meeting was setup, adding more concerns toward the integrity of the incident report, considering the controversial stories I have been given and her effort to stop the kids in the classroom from talking.
C. During our meeting on May 4th, Ms. D Ashhill said the incident was reported to the manager right after my son was injured. This was not true as I clearly remember it was me who escalated the situation to Ms. SH, who eventually left her office and walked into my son’s classroom.
D. There were a couple of times when incidents happened to my son under Ms. D Ashhill’s care, but were never put into any report. One day I noticed he got a fresh red mark on his cheek but Ms. D Ashhill had no idea what had happened. After asking the kids around she was able to find out that Littleoil had been scratched by a toy holding by another boy. Another time, I noticed Littleoil was sitting in the classroom extremely tired, with a little paper roll in his nostril to stop bleeding. I was told that he had an accident by bumping somewhere. Coincidently, Ms. D Ashhill was the only caregiver in both cases, and none of them appeared to be documented. Given all the experience above, I doubt if Ms. D Ashhill ever records any incidents happened under her care.
Second question, was low working attitude a contribution to the occurring of the incidents?
Since early 200x, I was off work for quite a while and have spent quite a lot of time with my son in and out of his classroom. I have witnessed the afternoon pre-school classroom was quite chaotic under Ms. D Ashhill’s care. Boys have been left fighting and girls crying without getting any attention. A girl’s mother had told me that she had noticed her daughter was crying while other kids were pulling her hair without raising any attention from Ms. D Ashhill. It was not difficult to conclude, that among all the caregivers in the center, Ms. D Ashhill’s working attitude was the lowest. In fact she’s more likely to act as a boss in the classroom rather than to give proper care and assistance to those who need. Incidents are more likely to happen in the afternoon, when she was assigned to take care of a bigger group. More parents are sharing the same opinion with me, that Ms. D Ashhill is the last person they would leave for their childcare had they given a choice. With all the experience and quotes from other parents we have enough reason to question Ms. D Ashhill’s working attitude, and if her low working attitude contributes to the incidents happened in her classroom.
As we have said before, we understand that incidents do happen in the classroom. As far as they have been handled appropriately, lessons have been learnt and every possible effort had been made to prevent child injury from happening again, parents will be relieved. I’m pleased to get attention from the higher management of MOOSEHEAD, and hope from there we could have better communication in order to build a safer place for all the children under MOOSEHEAD’s care.
Sincerely,
