Before I was a Dad
I made and ate hot meals.
I had unstained clothing.
I had quiet conversations on the phone.

Before I was a Dad
I slept as late as I wanted
And never worried about how late I got into bed.
I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.

Before I was Dad
I cleaned my house each day.
I never tripped over toys or forgot words of lullabies.

Before I was a Dad
I didn't worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Dad
I had never been puked on
Pooped on
Spit on
Chewed on
Peed on
Or pinched by tiny fingers

Before I was a Dad
I had complete control of:
My thoughts
My body
And my mind.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Dad
I never held down a screaming child so that doctors could do tests or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Dad
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn't want to put it down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces when I couldn't stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Dad.

Before I was a Dad
I didn't know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn't know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn't know that bond between a Father and her child.
I didn't know that something so small could make me feel so important.

Before I was a Dad
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay
I had never known the warmth
The joy
The love
The heartache
The wonder
Or the satisfaction of being a Dad.

    本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛　　今天下午去参加了一个Parenting Program，课间Winnie发了这首诗，并让全部的妈妈轮流读一段，读完后每一位妈妈的眼睛都是红红的。是的，诗中的每一句话是如此的震撼心灵，仿佛就在描述此时此刻生活中的我。

    　　女儿天天快半岁了，这篇《孩子，你可知道》送给她，感谢她给了我生命中最难忘的一百八十个日日夜夜。

    我不相信世间会有奇迹发生
    因为历经尝试，失败，再尝试，再失败
    因为上苍吝啬得不愿意再给一次机会以弥补曾犯下的错误
    因为医生宣布只有十万分之一的可能我能成为母亲

    孩子，你可知道：做妈妈之前
    我不相信孕育生命是如此艰难的一个过程
    不得不忍受没完没了的呕吐
    不得不接受满脸长斑，浑身起疙瘩
    不得不熬过一个又一个的无眠长夜
    不得不拖着沉重的身躯
    用着笨拙且臃肿的十指记录你的成长

    孩子，你可知道：做妈妈之前
    我不相信我可以如此轻易
    放弃每日雷也打不动的三杯热咖啡
    放弃每晚必在网上和朋友天马行空的神聊
    放弃每周“明月几时有，把酒问青天”的小资生活
    和熬夜必看的惊心动魄的恐怖电影

    孩子，你可知道：做妈妈之前
    我无法想象我会如此馋嘴
    绿油油的小白菜
    酸溜溜的腌黄瓜
    家乡香喷喷的绿豆糕
    和平时从来不曾入口的酸角

    孩子，你可知道：做妈妈之前
    我不相信我可以如此毫不眷恋
    摘去结婚戒指
    扔掉高跟鞋
    换上一件比一件大，一件比一件更无法显示身材的衣裤

    我无法想象自己
    也可以蓬头垢面，灰头土脸，不修边幅
    也可以让家里乱得无法入脚
    也可以让心爱的小鱼儿们饿上几日
    让平时精心照顾的花草缺水而枯萎

    我不会相信自己有一天变得如此市井
    整日谈论的不是Poo Poo 就是Pee Pee
    不是尿片就是奶瓶
    不是这有便宜的就是那有打折的

    我没有想到我也可以是一只护犊子的母狼
    对护士吼叫着“还需要等待多久”
    对医生咆哮着在整整等了四个小时后却换来了“回家继续观察”
    对老公狠狠拽上一脚当他无意碰到宝贝你的脑袋时

    孩子，你可知道：做妈妈之前
    我不知道有一种哭声会如此撕心裂肺，肝肠寸断
    当你第一天回家，没有把你喂饱时
    当你第一次打疫苗针时
    当你被托尼熊击中鼻子时
    当你从床上跌下落地时
    当你Sleep training时

    孩子，你可知道：做妈妈之前
    我从未知道有一种快乐能醉入心底，泌入心菲
    当你在怀中对我第一次微笑时
    当你第一次发出“啊，呀，依”的音时
    当你伸手要抱抱时
    当清晨对你说：“早上好，宝贝”时
    当正午你咕嘟咕嘟吃奶时
    当傍晚你和爸爸一起做运动时

    孩子，你可知道：做妈妈之前
    我从不知道熟睡的宝贝的小样儿是如此让人不舍放下
    我从不知道生命中会有一样东西与我联系得如此紧密：你笑，我笑；你哭，我哭；你痛苦，我只想替你疼
    我从不知道你能让我的生活发生如此巨大的变化：繁忙而琐碎，充实而幸福
    我从不知道会有一种爱不仅仅连着血液和经络，更系着无边无际的牵挂和爱怜
    我从不知道自己会如此的不安和惶恐，唯恐自己付出太少，唯恐自己欠缺的智慧没有把你引向一个快乐的人生
