What is Co-operative Education

Co-operative Education is a pedagogy that integrates classroom and work place learning. Students alternate academic terms on campus with relevant, paid, full-time work experience. The practical experience gained on these structured and supervised work terms is an integral part of the students' education. The term Co-operative Education emphasizes the relationship between the employer, the student and the University.

The Advantages of Co-operative Education

* Work terms provide learning experiences which complement theoretical coursework.
* Students apply and test their classroom knowledge in productive working environments, and develop professional skills required across a range of work settings.
* Work term income provides financial assistance towards tuition and living expenses.
* Co-op students are exposed to a variety of job settings and occupations during their work terms, which can help in refining career plans.
* The varied work term locations allow students to experience new living and working environments, and to make valuable professional contacts.
* Communication skills, resume writing, job search and interview skills are developed through the Co-op preparation process.

EI:

Employment Insurance provides temporary financial assistance for unemployed Canadians while they look for work or upgrade their skills. Canadians who are sick, pregnant or caring for a newborn or adopted child, as well as those who must care for a family member who is seriously ill with a significant risk of death, may also be assisted by Employment Insurance.

What is OSAP?

OSAP is a program run by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, and funded by the provincial and federal governments.

OSAP is a needs-based program. This means that it provides loans, grants, scholarships and bursaries based on a formula that compares your educational costs to expected contributions from your parents or your spouse (if applicable) and your own income and assets.

OSAP provides eligible Ontario students with financial assistance to help pay for their tuition, books, mandatory fees, living costs and transportation.
